Pictured here is Silvia Dubois (right) who was a resident of New Brunswick. In the late nineteenth century, Dubois received her manumission, or freedom, in Pennsylvania. After being released from slavery, Dubois travelled with her child to New Brunswick to live with her mother. Later, a book was composed about her experiences, A Biografy of the Slav Who Whipt Her Mistres and Gand Her Fredom.
