Three banks in New Jersey agreed to loan the Nyerere Educational Institute $176, 000. The school had been facing financial troubles since its establishment and the loan would help to pay off its debts and retain some stability. Founded in 1974, the Nyerere Educational Institute was a private school for black students. In addition to teaching an academic curriculum the school also fostered awareness on African American history and heritage.
